Does the Wattage of Your Sound System Really Matter?

How Much Difference Does Watts Make | Sound Power Amp WattageWhether you are professionals looking to add extra equipment to your event, or the general public doing a one-time event, we're consistently asked what the appropriate wattage would be. For example: “This system has 500 watts, and this other system has 600 watts -- which one will be right for my event?”

It sounds like an important question, one system has 20% more wattage than the other system, so it is going to be 20% louder, right?

Actually, the system used for amplifier rating is on a logarithmic scale. For double the volume, you would actually need ten times the wattage. So really, a 600 watt and a 500 watt are going to have a small difference in loudness.

Either of these systems would work fine for events with 200 or so people, so don’t let the wattage confuse you. We are here to make sure you rent the perfect system for your specific event, big or small.
